Race and Identity in the Presidential Election

October 3 @ 6:00 pm

In the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, race and racism continue to be central to debates, policy priorities, and campaign strategies. From anti-immigrant narratives to attempts to question another’s racial identity, candidates are connecting with voters across a spectrum of ideologies. On October 3, join us for a panel exploring how our conception of race could impact the election — and conversely, how the election could impact our conception of race.

This event will feature experts and scholars:
  • Cheri Beasley, former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court
  • Cornell William Brooks, Director of The William Monroe Trotter Collaborative for Social Justice and former CEO and President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
  • Khalil Gibran Muhammad, Ford Foundation Professor of History, Race and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and Director of the Institutional Antiracism and Accountability Project (IARA)
  • Eugene Scott (moderator), Axios Live host and Fall 2024 IOP Resident Fellow

This conversation is hosted by the Center for Public Leadership, the Institutional Antiracism and Accountability Project (IARA) and the Institute of Politics at the JFK Jr. Forum — Harvard’s premier arena for political discussion.
